Rene Descartes supposedly penned the quote ” I Think; Therefore I Am”, and I’m not too sure who placed the word DANGEROUS on there but it got me to thinking, but I’m not DANGEROUS! Unless you consider thinking of ways to make the world better through good deeds and kind words as being DANGEROUS, then I am guilty. Or that we should all understand that we are all human-beings, beyond Color, or Continent, then I’m guilty of that too! How about LOVE, I’m guilty of Loving everybody too, but I’m not DANGEROUS!
Maybe it’s the fact that I like to think before I act and I keep opening my big mouth (blogging), about the idea of Thought and how we should be continuously thinking for ourselves, and questioning everything? Or the fact that a society that is “Dumbed-Down”, is easier to control, and I write about that also. I did write earlier about the “Human Commodity”, didn’t I? We seem to live in a society that loves to create division, and I guess a man or woman who thinks, will see the part they play in the world, and in turn will embrace everyone as a brother and sister. I guess that can be DANGEROUS!!
It could actually be true. Human beings are more dangerous at times than animals because they can manipulate others by thinking and scheming.

I guess in that case it is Dangerous if that’s what everyone was set out to do. I still think that most wouldn’t.

Well, thinking makes all the difference. The quote mentioned is applicable to all what is wrong in this world. The sense in which you’re talking is how that wrong can be undone 😊 This post has got me thinking too 😉 Loved it 👌

Being dangerous can be about upsetting “norms and conventions” which by virtue of our ability to think we should actually aspire to do. So yes dangerous because I have to subject what society calls values to the crucible of my thought processes to know if it meets my own definition of values. Bottom line I think we are all dangerous in a good way but most dont even try. 🙂

Thinking is dangerous to those who want us to dummy down and be controlled; to the status quo; to prejudice, fearmonging and anything else that wants to injure or tear down the world. Having said all that, thinking is a wonderful gift that opens doors and fosters creativity. Oh that more people would catch on to this!

Perhaps they will catch on. Lets hope that they don’t wait too long. Thanks for the comment…

If the people weren’t divided and distracted we may all do something about the terrible way our countries are being run and how big businesses are bent on ruining everything. Anybody attacking the status quo is dangerous but people like Martin Luthur King and the Suffragettes end up as heroes, perhaps we should be looking to continually evolve for the better by being critical of how we live.

I agree 100%. Where are our true leaders of today? We must all stand, perhaps we can get something done.

People who think are only dangerous to people who wish to control the unthinking masses. In this instance, being dangerous is a good thing!

Many of us become dangerous when we think because that often means we’re going against the status quo. On the other hand, there are those for whom thinking alone is dangerous.

Interesting quote – and i love your reasoning about the word ‘dangerous’. I suppose all human beings have the potential to be dangerous – in varying degrees and in different ways. A thinking mind can be dangerous, but only when the thoughts are put into action and are detrimental to others or the environment, and so on. Now, you see, your blog has got me thinking already – and i only followed you a few minutes ago. Now I’ll leave the thinking to you… 🙂

Sometimes it just pours out. Thanks for the comment. The message can be interpreted in different ways. A thinking person can be considered dangerous if they use knowledge to oppress or to free..thanks again for following…

I think the quote it’s more towards society. The majority group of people who create stereotypes, prejudice, and all of those things that separate us. To think is to care. To care deeply enough and take the time to try to understand something; something alien. If we think, we can’t be brainwashed into something that isn’t worth breaking our unity.

It looks like some quotes without a context can be misunderstood. This quote makes perfect sense when you look at how the evolution of human knowledge impacted the earth and all the beings on it.
From thinking and inquiry comes knowledge.
Knowledge is power supreme.
And anything powerful in untrained hands is dangerous.
Are we ready for this exponential burst of knowledge.
We are already looking at clones. Is the world ready?
We are looking at self-repairing and ever learning robots, Are we ready?
We are poking on other planets for alien life, is earth ready to be seen by a misguided alien race, yet?
Where did everything around you come from? Paper to Nuclear weapons.
Something as simple as paper, lead to deforestation.
In search of faster commute, we ruined half of the planet.
With our desire to communicate faster, we turned the atmosphere into a huge microwave oven with our mobile phone and internet backbone.
If you have never thought about refrigeration there would be no holes in the ozone layer now.
Know that your thoughts/ideas once shared can no longer be taken back.
Like a Gun in a kid’s hands, such powerful knowledge in the hands of ever greedy beings is dangerous.
Thinking about ways of solving existing problems (what we perceive as problems) lead to more problems and challenges that did not exist before and the cycle goes on, never to stop.
This cycle can only be stopped when human beings stop thinking and start being.
We are human beings, let us be.
